I did the plans for two major additions to the
Karpeles' residence in Montecito in the
eighties, one of which was for their rare
manuscript collection.  The collection quickly
outgrew the space in their house.

In the last few years I have come to know Hank and
Nancy Wynands in Ojai.  Hank built movie sets for
years including those for David Lean's "Doctor
Zhivago." In turns out that Nancy, an accomplished
folk art artist, went to school in the same town in
Holland, Amersfoort, where my father was born and
grew up.
